1.Museum of History and Folklore
The museum exhibits over 100,000 of Japan’s oldest insect and plant fossils from the Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Neogene periods from the collection put together by the late Goro Okazaki of Mine City. These fossil specimens, alongside numerous materials related to Omine Coalfield and medicine that was produced in Isa, are on display and provide visitors with easy-to-understand explanations of Mine City’s history and culture.

2.Naganobori Copper Mine Cultural Exchange Center (Daibutsu Museum)
Visitors can learn about copper ore and how copper deposits are formed at the museum. There are exhibits of mokkan (ancient wooden tablets), artifacts related to smelting, pigment made from copper ore (verdigris), and tools that were used to make this pigment. Visitors can also take part in casting a metal medal of their own design using the method used to make the Great Buddha of Nara at Todaiji Temple, and calligraphy on a small-scale mokkan (wooden tablet). Advance booking is required for these activities.

3.Fossil Museum
The museum mainly features fossils that were produced in Mine City and explains what fossils are under the three themes of vertebrate animals, ammonites, and insects. Ammonite fossils from various eras and fossils of insects that have been trapped within amber are also on display. The large limestone collection in the museum’s warehouse also contains many fossils.

4.Akiyoshidai Eco Museum
The museum introduces the landforms, history, and nature of Akiyoshidai from various perspectives through videos and scale models. There are many areas where visitors can learn about the natural environment and ecosystem of Akiyoshidai through hands-on activities. There is also a space where it feels like you’ve walked into a cave.
