The Japan Geopark Committee held a meeting on the 9th of October, where it was decided to nationally endorse Miné-Akiyoshidai Karst Plateau Geopark as a UNESCO Global Geopark candidate from Japan. We believe that this is the result of the conservation efforts, educational activities and other activities held by local residents to promote the special geological heritage of our geopark area, which deserve to be passed on to future generations.
As part of the national endorsement process, three members of the Japan Geopark Committee visited our Geopark at the end of July to conduct an evaluation mission. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to everyone who was involved in the evaluation mission, as well as everyone who has been involved in our Geopark’s activities on a daily basis. Thank you very much.
In terms of what comes next, we plan to submit our English Application Dossier to UNESCO by the end of November, which will be followed by an evaluation mission next summer. We will continue to promote the activities of Miné-Akiyoshidai Karst Plateau Geopark as we strive to become a UNESCO Global Geopark!
